Christmas freedom, and hope for 2021

Lockdown two is finally over, but with so many of us still restricted by the tier system life doesn’t exactly feel that different. But with Christmas comes a glimpse of the freedom that we hope to get back to in 2021. I am so looking forward to spending time with my family and enjoying a small amount of normality. But despite being allowed to relax the rules a little, it’s important to remember that Covid is still here and therefore it’s important to stick to the rules so don’t take a step backward. If we all do our bit now then hopefully Christmas next year will be the large, chaotic, fun event that so many of us normally enjoy.

The vaccine news couldn’t have come soon enough and it has given us all a positive boost to end the year . . . a little hope for 2021. In life I try really hard to have a positive mindset all the times. I know that when I focus on the positives in life, I am able to have a positive attitude when I come up against challenges. With this in mind I will be spending December looking back, not at the low points of 2020, but instead remembering the little moments of joy. It’s been really hard for us all to be stuck at home for so long, but I have really loved spending extra time with my boys as a family.  And like so many people we have embraced video calls with extended family and feel so lucky that we have been able to see their faces.

Before Covid my working day was often filled with train journeys to meetings. As much as I miss face-to-face contact,I have embraced the extra hours I have gained by moving meetings online. Gaining flexibility in my working day has meant I have been able to find more time for bike rides and fit in longer dog walks, all of which has been amazing for my mental health. Moving into 2021 I will certainly be changing up some of the ways I work and embracing a more positive work/life balance.

Getting through 2020 has been such a huge challenge for so many of us, but we have survived and in so many ways we have also thrived! I for one will be looking back at the year when setting my goals for 2021, there has been so much learnt and so many positives to take forward.

I wish you all a very happy and healthy Christmas!
