Welcome...

Since hanging up my running spikes for the last time, I’ve been working with people in companies all over Britain to help them achieve their full potential, both in and out of the workplace. I’ve spoken to all types of audience, from a handful of people in a small, local business to 4,000 employees from a global brand name. Chances are that I’ve got something to offer your business as well. But don’t take my word for it; have a good look round my site and get in touch if you’d like to discuss anything in more detail. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sally joins the Run for Glory

Imagine a diverse group of ordinary people who only have one thing in common – they’ve never really done any running. What happens when you set such a group the challenge of their lives – to complete the London Marathon? If you’d like to know, then keep an eye out for “Run for Glory”, a new BBC documentary starring Sally as one of the performance coaches. Filming has been under way for three months as the show follows the various competitors through their training regime. It will soon be time for the moment of truth, because not all the competitors will be cleared to run the Marathon in March 2006. “Part of my role is to decide who is worthy to compete in the Marathon itself,” said Sally after a recent shoot in West London. “I’ll be looking at commitment to training and results achieved so far, but it’s going to be tough on some of those involved, because they can’t all go through.” The next stage of filming sees the remaining competitors (some have already been weeded out) traveling to Hong Kong and Australia to complete some warm weather training. “I don’t think any of these people have traveled abroad before, so it’ll be interesting to see how they cope with the journey, the different cultures and the temperatures they’ll be running in!” The show is due to be screened early in April 2006.

Sally checks out Sport Relief projects in South Africa

What have Ray Stubbs, Colin Jackson and Sally Gunnell got in common apart from their links with BBC Sport? They have a real passion for Sport Relief and the work it does to support those who are suffering in some of the world’s most deprived communities. “It’s great to be able to help others through sport and I’ve enjoyed being involved with Sport Relief over the years,” said Sally. “When the chance came up to go to the front line and see how the hard-earned money was being spent, I jumped at the chance.” Sally traveled to two South African townships with Stubbsy and Colin to view local, Sport Relief sponsored HIV projects; one in the outskirts of Johannesburg, the other close to Durban. “I don’t think anything could have prepared me for what I saw. The scale of the problem is almost beyond belief; one of the places we visited has an infection rate of well over 90% - basically, everybody has got the virus. I met some very, very brave people, who are fighting something they hardly understand. Sport Relief resources are giving them a small glimmer of hope as they try to educate the next generation about how HIV is transmitted; it’s just so tragic to see so many people for whom this knowledge has come too late.” Sally met one 13 year old girl who died shortly after her visit. “It’s heartbreaking to see; I can’t really put it in to words. I’ve only witnessed one tragedy out of the countless number which happen every day…I have no idea how the people here keep going, but if they can get up in the morning, then I can try to help them and encourage others to do the same”. Sport Relief Day is 15 July this year. Go to bbc.co.uk/sportrelief for more information on how you can help make a difference.

Sally steps down from BBC Sport

After 8 years of reporting from major athletics events around the world, Sally is handing back her headphones and mic to the Beeb. “I’ve been so fortunate to stay close to the world of athletics since I retired and I’ve loved being able to cover so many major thrills and spills in that period,” said Sally. “My life has entered a new phase since my third son was born and I’d been thinking for a while that maybe the time was coming for me to look at the work-life balance again. I’ll miss the excitement of the big-stage events, but it’ll be great to have more weekend time to spend with my husband and the kids. I’ve also got a number of other projects on the go, including my own conference venue and my work with Sport Relief, both of which are worthy of more effort from me!”

Sally joins BBC's Big Challenge

Sally says: ''I'm backing the BBC Big Challenge campaign because poor diet and fitness can have a huge impact on people's health and happiness and I think that we need to do as much as possible to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The workplace is a terrific place to encourage and motivate people to do that and employers can really make a big difference in this area.''
